In my own words, from Kenneth Benavides, founder of AltoLumo.
I started as a developer on ExxonMobil's fleet management platform, writing software for vessels, marine terminals, and onshore operations where a defect meant disruption to a globally distributed fleet. That start shaped everything that followed: advancing from developer to enterprise delivery leader at BMC Software, running $30M programs and leading teams through thousands of integration engagements in the early years of automation and AI, running $20M enterprise programs for Shell through T-Systems North America, leading a $4.5M global ServiceNow rollout across 400 locations while embedded at Chevron, and modernizing a statewide education platform serving over a million teachers, where product revenue grew 183 percent.
More recently, I worked with an AI and Infrastructure startup as a founding leader, guiding and developing a 15 person delivery organization alongside the individuals who built it, delivering a flagship platform with paying customers ready to go. That is the pattern I keep coming back to, in every chapter: come in, assess what is needed, build the structure, and run the execution until the organization can sustain it on its own.

After three decades building and running delivery organizations inside other people's companies, I built AltoLumo to put that same capability directly in reach of founders and growing teams who are building something significant. AltoLumo gives a company the judgment, the delivery, and the accountability of a fractional CTO or COO, with AI introduced where it improves the outcome, so it can move at a pace that once required a much larger team. I do not hand over a slide deck and leave. I build alongside the team and stay accountable until the work performs.
Commitment to the outcome
The three quotes I keep close, from James Dyson, Thomas Edison, and Soichiro Honda, are a reminder of what sustained effort requires. What I aim to bring to a client engagement is steady commitment to the work: building a team and a process that adapt as a project evolves and keep moving together toward the outcome.

Transparency. Progress, risk, and decisions shared on a regular rhythm, so leadership has a current view of the work.
Strength comes from design
A standard 2x4 Lego brick can withstand nearly 950 pounds of compressive force despite weighing just a few grams. Its strength does not come from size. It comes from precision engineering, structural design, and the ability to distribute pressure effectively across eight small studs.
I think about organizations the same way. The strongest companies, teams, and products are not necessarily the largest; they are the best designed. Whether the subject is a technology platform, an operation, or a team in transition, I look for where the load actually falls and build a foundation that carries it without unnecessary weight.
That is the standard I hold for every client: a foundation small enough to start with very little, such as a lean team, an MVP, and a first sprint, and strong enough to support whatever the company adds as it grows. The first week is better spent there than the next year spent rebuilding under load.
What fills the rest of the time
Family
Time with family is the reason the work has to be efficient, not only effective. The systems I build for clients exist so the people running them can step away with confidence. I recharge away from a screen, at the beach or at home with the people who matter most.
Building systems
Whether the subject is a delivery organization, an AI workflow, or a personal project, I favor a clear structure that works without constant supervision. That curiosity extends to AI, where I enjoy building new software and following where the field is heading.
Off the clock
I enjoy classic science fiction, the action films of earlier decades, and a good soccer match. Time off is for enjoyment and nothing more, and when I am off the clock, I am fully off.
Creative AI projects
Several of my side projects are experiments. I test early ideas in an AI music tool to learn what is possible, and I am developing a film concept from first idea through post-production to see where AI helps along the way. None of it needs to be released. It is the best way I know to learn what these tools can do.
Gaming with my son
I have been a gamer for as long as I can remember. My son and I spend hours building teams and working out strategy together, and one of those sessions ended up on a YouTube stream. It remains one of my favorite memories.
